My response to the letter “Voting Democrat an addiction” is to suggest that fascists have hijacked the Republican Party and use it to promote propaganda and defamation for political gain. This is plainly evident in the RNC’s support of the pillage of the U.S. Capitol in which it mislabeled hooliganism and terrorism as “legitimate political discourse” and in its censure of Reps. Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger for participating in the House investigation of that nadir in the history of our democracy.

Kudos to Sen. Mitt Romney for lambasting his party’s decision and supporting his fellow Republican lawmakers saying, “Shame falls on the party that would censure persons of conscience, who seek truth … .”

Thanks to former Vice President Mike Pence for affirming that he “had no right to overturn the election” and that former President Trump was “wrong” to suggest that he could.

When will moderates and reasonable conservatives oust this reactionary, anti-democratic element from what was once the Grand Old Party? The only thing grand about it these days is the grand larceny committed by demagogues who have stolen and undermined its former centrist principles.

I remember a time when Democrats and Republicans worked together for the good of the country. Do you?
