It has been bothering me that letter-writer Sandra Kremer (“Republicans’ legacy of debt,” Dec. 1, TribLIVE) was knocking the Republican president for increasing the national debt. She writes about Democratic presidents with surpluses, like LBJ’s $3.2 billion. Also, Bill Clinton had a surplus. She then states Ronald Reagan added $1.5 trillion to the debt. Then along came Donald Trump, who ran a deficit of $2.47 trillion in his first three years in office.

Somehow, she forgot to state President Obama inherited a debt of $10.6 trillion, which went up to $19.9 trillion during his eight years in office. A $9 trillion increase makes the Republican presidents look like pikers.

If you want to write about money mistakes, write about everyone, not just your chosen few. Obama was the champion spender, and I sure hope no one ever breaks his glorious record.
