Letter to the editor: Republican women guided truth and common sense

Way back in the ’70s, Morris Albert had a hit song titled “Feelings.” It’s the background music that plays in my brain as I read some of the letters to the editor.

I play a little game called Name the Gender of the Writer Without Looking. And I’ve become quite good at it. Occasionally, a girlie kind of guy will fool me, but usually, if the letter is filled with vivid feelings, emotions and imaginations, the writer will prove to be of the fairer sex.

These women further the old stereotype that women are guided by feelings and emotions rather than truths, facts, common sense, logic and reality. They are usually extremely angry and upset and often offer information that isn’t even true, like a recent writer who actually admitted that NPR was the source that needlessly had her knickers in a knot (“Trump’s golf costing taxpayers millions,” April 4, TribLive).

Frequently, these writers will begin by spilling their emotional baggage and then end by casting ugly aspersions and name calling of people like me who disagree with them, and whom they blame for making them feel as they do. And the name-calling has left me devastated and an emotional wreck.

Now, to be clear, I absolutely do not believe that all women are guided by feelings and emotions. Far from it! It is my observation that many millions of women are guided by truths, facts, logic, common sense and reality. And there is actually a name for these types of women. They are called Republicans.
