Letter to the editor: Reschenthaler should do better

Tribune-Review

Dear Guy Reschenthaler,

Some of us grow weary of performance art from Congress. Your own latest: Legislation to rename Washington-Dulles Airport for the former president. This is what you offer constituents?

Here’s what you have not offered, as you voted against President Biden’s infrastructure bill. Residents in Bovard are receiving mine subsidence assistance (“Work begins to stabilize subsidence-prone portion of Hempfield village,” April 3, TribLive). Ligonier area residents will soon have new broadband access (“Westmoreland broadband installations to begin this spring,” Feb. 28, TribLive). These Westmoreland County residents are reaping benefits which you voted not to give us.

How about doing some real work? Get aid to Ukraine; stop being Putin’s useful fool. Instead of complaining about the border, fix it. Resurrect the bill that’s already available. It is Congress’ job to pass immigration law. Sign on as a co-sponsor of the Railway Safety Act, a needed reform after the East Palestine disaster (“Railway Safety Act shouldn’t be derailed,” April 3, TribLive).

Do better, Rep. Reschenthaler. Enough with the empty performance art.

Helen Sitler
