Rep. Guy Reschenthaler’s op-ed “Trump built greatest American economy before. He’ll do it again” (June 22, TribLIVE), intended as a kumbaya moment for unity, was actually a commercial for Donald Trump, as noted by letter-writers Leonard Mucci (“Reschenthaler drank the Kool-Aid,” July 6, TribLIVE) and Joanne Garing (“Reschenthaler’s Trump view out of touch,” July 6, TribLIVE).
Reschenthaler’s kumbaya moment did not last long. On June 29, he joined a Trump reelection campaign-inspired lawsuit waged against Pennsylvania and county elections officials. The lawsuit is essentially a slap in the face to elections officials, implying they cannot do their jobs or will outright enable fraud in the November election.
Would Reschenthaler prefer that the most vulnerable among us, the elderly, whether voters or precinct workers, be exposed to the coronavirus rather than vote by mail at home? Party of life, indeed. This despite precious little evidence of voter fraud.
And of course, I should point out that absentee voting is fine for the likes of Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, the current press secretary and I am willing to bet scores if not hundreds of the West Wingers. Fine for the elite but not fine for the hoi polloi (us).
Is Reschenthaler serving our district? Recall that Kris Kobach of Kansas struggled mightily to find significant voter fraud in the 2016 election and came up with bupkis. Where I grew up (northern Cambria County), according yourself advantages that you deny others was termed “pretty rich.” Well, I think this situation is pretty rich; others would say hypocritical.
