Letter to the editor: Reschenthaler's Trump view out of touch

Tribune-Review

It is apparent that Guy Reschenthaler (“Trump built greatest American economy before. He’ll do it again.” June 28, TribLIVE) is out of touch with his constituents in Westmoreland County. Many people here are struggling to get by. Even before the virus hit, food banks were busy, and several homes were in foreclosure.

One problem is wage stagnation. Forty four percent of Americans have a median income of less than $18,000 a year. Our income inequality is at historic levels. President Trump exacerbated this with his 2017 tax cuts. The majority of benefits went to the wealthy few.

Reschenthaler makes over a dozen misstatements, alternative facts or inaccuracies, however you want to label the mendacities. Trump does not have natural business instincts. He went into bankruptcy six times. When U.S. banks stopped lending Trump money, he turned to Russia. He has been living on billions of borrowed money for years.

Trump did not bring manufacturing jobs back to the U.S.; Pennsylvania lost 8,000 manufacturing jobs between August 2018 and August 2019.

Trump did not have a national mobilization to combat covid-19 . In fact, he was MIA, refused to accept responsibility and passed the buck to the governors.

The only record-breaking high we have had is the stock market. Trump is propping it up with junk bonds. He must reward his donor class.

Trump is not a successful leader. He has been a failure at handling the economic and virus crisis. His No. 1 job is to protect us but 125,000 of us have lost their lives.
