Like Spider-Man breaking the multiverse at your local multiplex, our common American reality has been shattered as evil forces run amok. Before Uncle Ben and Aunt May, Franklin Delano Roosevelt said: “In a democratic world, as in a democratic Nation, power must be linked with responsibility, and obliged to defend and justify itself within the framework of the general good.”

We are living through a variation of America’s historic confrontation with fascist aggression coming now, unlike during World War II, from within the United States. Fox “News” relentlessly wields fear itself as a weapon of mind control to indoctrinate millions of citizens away from American values and toward allegiance to autocratic demagogues.

In 1945, FDR said of Nazi disinformation: “We must resist this divisive propaganda — we must destroy it — with the same strength and the same determination that our fighting men are displaying as they resist and destroy the panzer divisions.”

Our “rendezvous with destiny” is, as was our forebears’, to rescue democracy, this time from domestic enemies who seek to crush our freedom by first annihilating truth.
