Letter to the editor: Residents should voice opinions on Harrold school's future
On Feb. 21, the Hempfield Area School Board will hold a meeting at 7 p.m. at Harrold Middle School to determine whether or not to close the school. I sincerely hope residents will show up and voice their opinions. Some of the school board members feel there is no money to keep this school open, but at recent meetings they’ve entertained building new facilities with things like batting cages. The multi-million-dollar high school renovation includes a new swimming pool and a ridiculous giant glass entrance; these will not benefit the majority of children.
What will benefit all of our children and staff is smaller class sizes. You don’t need a doctorate to understand that smaller groups learn better. Smaller classes make it easier for students and teachers to develop connections so the staff can recognize opportunities to help every child learn better and feel better about who they are and where they fit in life.
