Does letter-writer Lori Kregiel (“Refuse ads that spread misinformation,” May 14, TribLIVE) consider opinions that differ from hers “disinformation”? Shouldn’t a large part and purpose of media in this country be the free exchange of ideas, opinions and all sides of a story or issue?

All major topics of our day seem to have a one-sided narrative that is accepted and trumpeted by mainstream media. The other side of these issues, even if based on fact, science, evidence, data and logical, rational thinking, are sometimes silenced.

Whatever issue you choose, and whatever side of it you believe, it is sad that anyone has to pay to have their opposing viewpoint published.

I miss the days when the Trib allowed online comments on stories. I miss my buddy Oren Spiegler. Although we disagreed on 99% of issues, I always appreciated and respected his comments. I’d have a beer with him any time.

Can we get back to civil debate and discussion, without calling for the silencing of opposing viewpoints?
