Letter to the editor: Restrictive gas policies hurt Pa.

As one of the top natural gas producers in the country, Pennsylvania energy plays a huge role in creating jobs, boosting the economy and even providing our European allies with energy in the form of liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Unfortunately the Biden administration’s efforts to halt these projects, as seen most recently in its unlawful LNG permitting pause, could really hurt us here at home. Pennsylvanians rely heavily on the natural gas impact fee, which has brought in over $2.7 billion since 2012. This money supports vital local programs like park renovations, public safety and road repairs in every county across the state as well as the benefit to American productivity.

Every year, our towns count on this funding to help make improvements and keep our communities running smoothly. Delays or stoppages in natural gas projects could mean a reduction in the funds that help our communities and businesses thrive.

These restrictive policies not only threaten our jobs and economic growth but also jeopardize the resources that are crucial for our local development. It’s essential that we push for policies that support our energy industry and, by extension, our local towns and neighborhoods.

Let’s ensure that Pennsylvania’s voice is heard and lift the “shadow” pause on U.S. LNG projects so that we continue to benefit from the impact fee revenue that keeps our communities strong. Being productive is what generates the wealth we need to sustain our society.
