Letter to the editor: Right vs. left media

Tribune-Review

The writer of the letter “Mistrust of mainstream media” (June 18, TribLive) has it backwards. He, as are so many who are ensconced in right-wing propaganda, believes the “mainstream news” is slanted to the left. I wonder if his sources have told him that Fox “News” was recently fined $787 million for lying to its audience. Nothing like that has ever happened to NYT, CNN, MSNBC or other traditional sources he cites.

It seems to be the purpose of Fox to get Republicans elected, at any cost. President Reagan dismantled the Fairness Doctrine, which required all news outlets to be fair and balanced. That opened the door to Rush Limbaugh, Fox and the current cesspool of disinformation. Fox is the propaganda arm of the Republican Party. It was formed by Rupert Murdoch, who is rich and wants to get richer, and for that he needs to get Republicans elected. The mission of CNN is to report news as it is — no ulterior motive.

Remember, if you are standing on the right, center will appear left. I suggest the writer expose himself to both sides and see which one makes more sense. Which one better reflects reality? There were no price decreases on the first day of President Trump’s term. The two ongoing wars were not ended on the first day. The Mexicans didn’t pay for the wall that never got built. Instead, tax cuts for the rich caused massive inflation that he blamed on President Biden.

If you are watching Fox etc., I think you are hearing Trump’s lies, not the facts.
