Letter to the editor: Right-wing cesspool

Facebook went viral with the “Let’s go Brandon” saying, and I had no idea what they were talking about. It took a friend to tell me what it meant.

It all started on Oct. 9, when NASCAR driver Brandon Brown won his first race in the Xfinity series at Alabama’s Talladega Superspeedway. An NBC Sports reporter was interviewing Brown in the winner’s circle. The crowd made the interview R-rated when chants of “(expletive) Joe Biden” poured down from the stands.

Despite the track-side interview having nothing to do with politics, the reporter’s attempt to move the interview along fed into long-standing assumptions of conservative media personalities that mainstream media outlets are always in cahoots with Democrats. They’ve since latched on to the chant as a prime example of bias against conservatives.

Eventually, the chant ended up on a Fox News banner and at other professional sporting events. It appeared on an airplane banner at a rally in Iowa for former President Trump.

What’s wrong with you people? “Indecent and profane content is prohibited on broadcast TV and radio between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m., when there is a reasonable risk that children may be in the audience,” the Federal Communication Commission’s website said. Pickup trucks are driving around town with “(expletive) Joe Biden” flags.

This country is a right-wing cesspool. Thanks for nothing, Donald Trump!
