I share the sentiments of letter-writer Stewart B. Epstein (“We need a president with a ‘Robin Hood’ agenda,” Feb. 26, TribLIVE). However, my understanding of the true story of Robin Hood was that he stole money from the king’s tax collectors and returned it to the taxpayers.

The concept of taking money from each according to his ability and giving to each according to his need is the hallmark of the communist manifesto. Punishing the most successful with high income taxes suppresses wealth creation. Distributing wealth by central government authority squanders it. Allowing citizens to reap the rewards of hard work with lower taxes, along with a free enterprise system, has created the wealthiest society in history. Both communism and the income tax amendment seem to suppress wealth creation in an effort to share wealth.

I, too, am seeking a leader, but one who has the true Robin Hood agenda of returning money to the taxpayer.
