I’m happy Russia is joining countries signing on to the “green” initiative to reduce carbon emissions. This is good news because in January 2020 they committed the equivalent of $300 billion in incentives for oil and gas developments in the Arctic Ocean. I’m sure Russia’s goal is to protect these valuable fossil fuel assets from countries that, unlike us, have not put climate change at the top of their foreign policy agenda.
Russia’s current Arctic projects account for 20% of the country’s gross national product; they should be commended for not wishing to increase that by putting the earth at risk.
Russia’s Power of Siberia pipeline transported 5 billion cubic meters of natural gas into China in 2020. China has also signed on to reduce carbon emissions, so will they find an emissions-free method providing warmth for the hundreds of thousands of people they have placed in concentration camps for their own safety? The fact that they have given them jobs up to 12 hours per day again speaks to China’s generosity of spirit.
