Letter to the editor: Russia’s war demands should be rejected

I am writing this after reading about the demands Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov made for the Ukraine war to end. He has demanded about 20% of what is actually Ukrainian territory be relinquished to Russia. This is much more than what was initially offered at the earlier proposal.

As much as I detest war and the death and destruction that it imposes on both sides of a conflict, it is my opinion that Ukraine must reject this demand and continue to defend itself from this blatant land grab from Russia. President Trump must tell Russian President Vladimir Putin in no uncertain terms that this latest proposal is unacceptable, and Russia must return to the initial offer. If Putin refuses this, then he must be told the next move the U.S. and NATO will make is to arm the Ukraine military with nuclear arms. And, if Putin disagrees, they must carry through with this notice, and may the chips fall where they may.

The problem began with Russia invading Ukraine, and it should not be rewarded with more territory than what was in the first proposal.
