Letter to the editor: School board member's views hateful
It was with disbelief that I read about the controversial posts by Norwin School Board member Robert Wayman (“Norwin director ripped over controversial posts; some call for resignation,” Aug. 3, TribLIVE). I cannot imagine if I were a Jew, a teacher who is compromised because of health conditions and the frightening prospect of returning to the classroom, a transgender individual like Dr. Rachel Levine, a minority member of the community or any of the other individuals or groups he denigrates and who attend Norwin schools.
His background is amazing. He served as the city council president, is enthroned on the school board until December 2023 and “taught” children of Norwin. Hopefully he didn’t teach in the history department. If he did, I wonder how he presented the fact that approximately 6 million Jews and some 5 million others, targeted for racial, political, ideological and behavioral reasons, died in the Holocaust.
Maybe his behavior explains the reason we see hateful billboards when we drive through the community. Hopefully the vast majority do not share his hateful views.
