In March, 10 senators crossed party lines to vote with Republicans on a budget resolution that razes public programs to pay for tax cuts for the rich.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer voted “yes” to the Trump/Musk budget that strips agriculture programs of $230 billion, potentially gutting the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Shamefully, both Pennsylvania senators joined his ranks. As of January 2024, 2 million Pennsylvanians received SNAP benefits, meaning 2 million Pennsylvanians now face uncertainty over their food security, a worry no one should ever have to consider.

We cannot afford Schumer’s weak leadership any longer. While the administration loots and privatizes our democracy, Americans need leaders who will stand up to the injustices occurring in our nation’s capital.

Sen. Cory Booker’s record-breaking speech sets a good example. For over 25 hours, Booker told the story of struggling Americans and called out the corruption in Washington.

Schumer, it’s time to step aside as Senate minority leader immediately.
