Article 1 in our Constitution ensures that the Senate and Congress keep the separation of powers intact. A president trying to become authoritarian is courting fascism. When the majority of the people state that a border wall is not the answer, and it’s not wanted, and even the Senate has to step in to block a national emergency, it’s on President Trump.

He had the opportunity to distance himself from racist, anti-immigrant remarks, and he doesn’t want to.

Sen. Pat Toomey voted with 12 Republicans to not release funds for a national emergency. Good for him! I am dismayed (but not surprised) to see Trump supporters angry with him. Toomey was doing his duty and protecting the Constitution, his own powers and those of all senators, who are there to work for we, the people.

The words Trump uses to threaten his colleagues ring hollow, and I hope the Senate will remain strong against this lying president.

And for violent thinkers whose opinions are rising, be they bots or actual people, there aren’t enough Trump supporters and never will be. People do know when they are being lied to. And they know it doesn’t make America great — only white. You can’t just take fascism and try it on for size.
