Letter to the editor: Setting record straight on Biden and his policies

There have been a few recent fact-free letters attacking President Joe Biden, as if he is the one being indicted for federal crimes, when in fact the attempts by Rep. James Comer to find fault with Biden have failed spectacularly. In the letter “Biden stinks and his policies stink” (Aug. 7, TribLIVE) makes a number of unbacked assertions about the state of the nation that are worse than merely wrong.

If Biden and Democrats are at fault for problems in this nation, why is it that inflation rates, crime rates, teenage pregnancy rates, infant mortality rates and educational attainments are all worse on average in red states? Also, the author’s claim about “confidence in the future” is out of date, as consumer confidence has been on the upswing for at least a few months. Unemployment is at a historic low. Wages are rising faster than inflation, and Biden got an infrastructure bill passed that congressional Republicans, who voted against it, are touting, as if they should get credit.

Finally, it is a matter of public record that President Trump tried to tell his appointees in agencies such as the Department of Justice to go after his enemies and with some success. Biden has kept out of the actions of those he appointed. Amazing that so many Republicans want to believe that Biden “weaponized federal agencies” when in fact Trump had done this.
