Letter to the editor: Sewickley Township Library finds a new home

Tribune-Review

I write this letter of gratitude on behalf of the board of directors of the Sewickley Township Public Library.

We appreciate our current and past township supervisors who have provided us with a home in the old Sewickley High School. The building served us well, but, due to age and deterioration, we had to vacate last spring and move to another location provided by current township supervisors. We are grateful to have a place to serve our community, and Director Mandy Luchs and her staff are making the best of this nice, but much smaller, temporary space.

Herminie United Methodist Church, Herminie VFW and St. Edward Catholic Church provide use of their facilities for our programming, and Stephen Makosey has granted us use of his parking lot.

Almost two years ago, we approached former Yough School Board President Jared Filapose and his board about our situation. With the help of Superintendent Anthony DeMaro, Yough’s solicitors, Gary Matta and Joe Dalfonso, and our solicitor, Jim Duffy, we recently received a parcel of land to construct a library located adjacent to the H.W. Good Elementary School.

A capital campaign to fund this project will begin soon, including applying for grants from public and private foundations and funding from local businesses, library supporters and our community.

We want to acknowledge everyone for their shared commitment to providing lifelong learning to our community and the optimism needed to reach our goal. For that, we couldn’t be more grateful.
