I am sorry to learn that as Sheriff James Albert changed his affiliation to the Republican Party, he also took the opportunity to spread what I see as falsehoods about the Democratic Party’s stance on law enforcement issues and its alleged “drift to the left” (“Westmoreland sheriff: ‘I have not left the Democratic Party, the Democratic Party has left me’,” Sept. 15, TribLIVE).

If anything, the Democratic Party has become the party of centrism in response to the GOP’s confounding march to the (alt-)right. His departure to the Republican Party only makes sense, given that he claims he has always been “pro-life, a strong supporter of the Second Amendment, a lifetime member of the NRA.” Such one- or two-issue voters tend to flock to the right anyway.

I just hope Albert will take his responsibilities to the public more seriously and actually look objectively at the facts the next time he chooses to speak about political parties and their positions.
