Letter to the editor: Since when do we root for the powerful?

Look what they’ve done to us. Look at how they’ve turned us on each other. Where Americans once would have stood together and done anything for their country, they are now willing to go to war against other Americans for an idea we’ve been sold — the idea that we hate each other. Every day I see a battle of two or more figureheads suing, summoning and subpoenaing each other. As soon as we’re distracted, they reach into our pockets and steal our wallets.

Oldest trick in the book.

Right now, we are sitting on what amounts to the largest wealth transfer in history. The transfer from the most profitable generation in human history by any metric: the boomer generation. As this generation moves off of this mortal coil, their wealth will be transferred to their children.

How do you steal money? We’ve all seen the heist movies — first, you create a distraction. As long as they have us fighting each other, they’re stealing our money. From 2005 to 2025, there have been 3,028 new billionaires. Where do you think that money’s coming from? Everything’s more expensive for you and me, while they get to build a second and third mega yacht?

That amount of wealth should be disgusting, not revered. Since when have the powerful been the good guys? In the old Wild West movies, we didn’t root for the railroad barons — we rooted for the common people taking a stand against them.
