Letter to the editor: Smart policies will secure Pa.'s energy future
With the holidays upon us, many Pennsylvanians are trying to budget for everything from gifts and family get-togethers to fuel for long car rides. Fortunately, it seems the focus can stay on holiday cheer and not gasoline costs this season, as discussed in “National average gas cost falls for 3 months straight, at lowest level this year” (Dec. 11, TribLive).
Prices at the pump are impacted by many factors, but a key one is American oil production. U.S. oil and natural gas companies are currently producing historic levels of crude oil. This helps ensure all Americans have access to affordable, reliable energy this winter and beyond.
But we need smart policies to secure our energy future.
First, Congress could modernize America’s permitting process to make it easier for all kinds of infrastructure to be built. Next, the Biden administration could open more federal lands to oil and natural gas leases. Finally, policymakers could stop trying to impose burdensome regulations that put future energy development at risk.
Pennsylvania has a long and proud history as an energy producer. Our leaders in Harrisburg and Washington should work together to protect the Keystone State’s businesses, workers and families by helping ensure future energy development.
