Regarding the article “Pittsburgh needs to step up police recruitment efforts, officials say” (Dec. 1, TribLIVE): I have a few suggestions for the city.

First and foremost, stop mandating what I believe is an unsafe and ineffective vaccine for your police officers.

Untie the hands of those out there risking their lives every day and allow them to do the job they’ve been trained to do. Start prosecuting the criminals and support your police officers.

Finally, have respect for the officers you have remaining and stop demonizing them in order to follow a political narrative. I also suppose a raise in pay would be welcomed, but I don’t believe it’s the reason the city can’t find and retain officers as stated in the article.

Every day, there is another murder or violent crime in the city. Pittsburgh is placing its citizens at a huge risk, and it doesn’t seem to care.
