Letter to the editor: Solving our leadership crisis
The country does not have a police brutality crisis. It has a leadership crisis at the top of every government and every political organization in the country. This is America. We are not being governed as we deserve.
We need to start at the top. President Trump needs to step up and say something like this:
“America is in crisis. I am still running for president, but I hereby abandon all further efforts at campaigning. I care more about my country than I do about being reelected. I challenge and offer Joe Biden the opportunity to join me in this now. Later, we can engage in peaceful discussion of our differences in the standard American presidential debates.”
If Trump does this and succeeds, he does not need to take away time and hold his precious rallies. The country would elect him in a landslide.
The most current crisis involves police reform. The “great dealmaker” should step up and call together leaders of the police, unions and civil rights organizations and get some agreement. If the unions don’t stop preventing prosecution of rogue cops, there is nothing the police and justice can do to satisfy the public.
Great crises create great presidents. Trump has the courage, strength and ability to change America and even the entire world. Can he do it? Can he grow out of his insistence on always being right? I pray that he can.
