Letter to the editor: Sombo was an asset to North Huntingdon

I find North Huntingdon Township to be a fine place to live and raise a family. One of the many reasons I feel this way is due to our police department. I have lived here since 1976 and have always felt comfortable and safe.

It started when I met Officer Bill Sombo many years ago. Sombo was an old-fashioned type of policeman when he was a young officer. He cared about everyone he met. Now he has become police chief in Elizabeth (“Ex-North Huntingdon, Irwin officer named Elizabeth Borough police chief,” April 2, TribLIVE). What a terrible loss to the people of North Huntingdon.

I felt Sombo was set up and treated unfairly when he was fired in 2014. To have someone like him keeping your family and home safe, and then have him removed from his job because of the politics within the police department at the time, was unfortunate for the people of North Huntingdon.

I suggest North Huntingdon consider bringing Sombo back where he belongs for its tax-paying residents.

Nick Dankovich
