Letter to the editor: Some thoughts from the last century

These are some thoughts I think I thought.

I have used up most of my first 100 years on Earth. It hasn’t been all peaches and cream; we have had the setbacks most families have — leukemia, colon cancer, bypass surgery. But thanks to my wife’s faith, we have overcome it all. My wife didn’t preach her faith, she lived it. We had evening meal together where we gave thanks for our luxuries. We have been blessed.

I am a Harry Truman Democrat, which translated means integrity. Most people are not aware of propaganda. During World War II, we had Tokyo Rose and Lord Ha Ha; now we have Sean Hannity and Fox News. I believe integrity is one thing Sens. Mitch McConnell and Lindsay Graham are lacking. They are like the president they idolized. People like them keep telling me they want less government. But I believe they want to rig the ballot box to keep the vote down, and they’re banning books. Sounds a lot like Berlin in 1938. They had a paper hanger running the show, didn’t they? It backfired on him when the good folks of the world put a stop to him.

I did see a few new memorable things in my lifetime: People invented radar and television, computers and smartphones, and went to the moon. But the best of all was the mute button on the remote control. Everybody talks and no one listens. That is one drawback of Facebook; someone takes an idea off the wall and you are supposed to believe it’s fact.

Everyone has an opinion, right or wrong.

Bill Thomas
