Letter to the editor: Spending in Norwin

So now we have the Norwin School District raising taxes again due to a budget shortfall (“Norwin OKs tax hike; maintains staff, programs,” June 21, TribLIVE). It’s interesting how they have money to pay for soccer field and other sporting venue “upgrades” but find it necessary to jam it to the taxpayers. Typical. Why are they not spending it on STEM investment, which they tout so much and is far more important than sporting events?

If you want to teach responsibility, teamwork and physical fitness, have the students join the ROTC. There is nowhere better to learn life lessons than the military, junior or otherwise.

Cut spending, including sports “coaches,” who are overpaid teachers union hacks. All sports expenditures, including busing to and from events, grounds maintenance for fields, coaching, and administration should be paid for by fundraising. That’ll give them a life skill — managing a business, and all the hurdles (no pun intended) that go with it.

Let’s get back to what attending school is supposed to be: getting an education, and a good one at that, and cutting the cord on out-of-control spending on bloated sports events.
