Letter to the editor: Stand up, speak out and vote

Tribune-Review

This current administration is pounding dangerous chaos on us: troops in our cities for no good reason; on-and-off-again tariff wars; loyalty-style governance; photo ops with a Russian dictator; voter suppression measures, including possible elimination of mail-in balloting; strong-arming our libraries, universities, media companies and private corporations; scare tactics of intimidation by guys in black masks; lawsuits simply for personal vengeance.

The method to this purposeful chaos may be to keep us spinning: “look here, look there” tactics so we don’t think about the fact that our democracy is being undermined by the current administration as they try to move us into autocracy. But then … just maybe it’s so we don’t look closely at the Epstein files?

Citizens holding jobs and raising families barely have enough time to concentrate on this constant chaos. Or we might be busy fighting for causes, or maybe we are just apathetic about government. Or maybe we think that our government will survive like always and get back to normal.

I think, if we want our country to remain a democracy, that we can’t normalize or desensitize ourselves to this chaotic, autocratic governing. Rather we stand up and speak out to our legislative representatives and then we vote.

Our children are watching.
