Letter to the editor: Steelers fans stupid or in stupor?

Tribune-Review

As we wind down the spring “whine and cheese” bellyaching on the Pirates, now comes the fall edition (the Steelers).

Trib columnist Mark Madden wrote a re-Mark-able column, “Stop supporting the Pittsburgh Pirates” (Aug. 4, TribLive), stating how stupid Pirates fans are for supporting that unworthy team. When I need a good laugh, I read it again.

I’ve been waiting for his thoughts on yinzer nation. Is stupidity contagious or are Steelers fans just a bunch of beer-guzzling buffoons who don’t know any better?

Let’s examine: Criticizing Art Rooney, Mike Tomlin, Omar Khan, etc., has become low-hanging fruit, no longer worthy of words, as they are tone deaf. They permit players under contract to engage practice time at camp by doing “sit-ins” so as to obtain more money. After their recent loss to Seattle, clearly they need more practice. How about, next game at Acrisure, fans have a “sit-out” and enjoy their beer in the parking lot? This will get their attention and maybe the change so desperately needed. Your bellyaching does nothing!

Perhaps the overpaid players (stat seekers) like T.J. Watt will actually get a sack, or perhaps he can buy one with the $41 million he’s being paid. Let’s never forget Cam Heyward’s threat to sit out unless he got more money despite having two years left on his contract. Shameful.

Washed-up veterans are paraded here on the dollar conveyor belt year in and year out because the organization has no ability to draft or development talent. Arthur Smith is the head coach in waiting. I’m guessing AARP is the team sponsor. Are the fans stupid or in a stupor? You tell me.
