Letter to the editor: Steelers need smart decisions to win

Most Steelers fans could not have imagined what we saw Jan. 10 when the Steelers lost to the Browns, 48-37. The Steelers resting some starters the week before sounded like a great idea, but it backfired. The Steelers have not been sharp since at least midway through the season. Resting them made them perform worse in the Jan. 10 playoff game. Timing was off, routes were missed — it was a mess.

Yes, they almost came back, but the rust came back again and again. But the worst thing was that the Browns could not practice all week in person, and they beat the Steelers.

It is and has been obvious for a while: Changes are needed, starting at the top. More coaches need to go, players need to go, and a whole new attitude is needed. The coaches’ words or fancy phrases don’t win games. Smart decisions and desire do.

Mr. Rooney, the ball is in your hands.
