Letter to the editor: Steelers' overpayments
In his column “Steelers not getting their money’s worth from T.J. Watt” (Sept. 20, TribLive), Mark Madden observed: “Look at the Steelers’ roster and stat sheet. Paying name veterans too much money to underperform seems a developing theme.”
Also telling is that since Cameron Heyward was drafted in the first round in 2011, the only other Steelers defensive player drafted in the first or second round and still on the roster is the 2017 first round pick: T.J. Watt.
The other first- or second-round defensive players — Devin Bush, Terrell Edmunds, Artie Burns, Sean Davis, Bud Dupree, Senquez Golson, Ryan Shazier, Stephon Tuitt and Jarvis Jones — are no longer on the roster, so the Steelers are not even overpaying very many of “our top picks” to have this season’s most expensive defense.
Last season’s starting quarterbacks are a combined 0-6 in New York.
Madden must be flabbergasted that the Steelers somehow managed not to be overpaying both of them this season as well.
