For those of you who are dismayed by the direction of our government, here are some steps to take as recommended by former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich:

• Attend peaceful rallies and demonstrations.

• Call, email or write to your elected government officials daily and let them know where you stand. You can also use 5calls.org.

• Attend town halls. You can find local gatherings on the internet at Indivisible Pittsburgh.

• Join local resistance groups such as ACLU, political groups and 50501.

• Boycott corporations and organizations that support or cave to President Trump. Vote with your dollars.

• Protect the most vulnerable in the community. Document what you observe.

• Support those standing up to Trump.

The Greek political philosopher Thucydides said, “The secret to happiness is freedom … and the secret to freedom is courage.” Resist, push back — it works.
