I consider the writer of the letter “Republicans, don’t back Trump” (Aug. 14, TribLIVE) a never- Trumper in lockstep with Liz Cheney and old guard Republicans. Let’s examine his three reasons for not supporting Trump.
1. “He failed to take any action during the Jan. 6 mob action to keep the peace.” It was House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s mess; she was in charge of security. And why should he help his enemies? And give this some thought: Everything he tried to do, they turned on him.
2. “He does not seem to care about speaking what is truthful.” What national politician tells the truth? Sen. John Fetterman lied about his health, and I think we’re told lies about President Biden’s mental fitness and health. And what about Russian collusion? Hunter’s laptop being Russian disinformation?
3. “He is highly disrespectful of many people.” Do you not notice he is respectful to some? And if he is so disrespectful to women, how does he get such beautiful wives? Is respect not earned?
Yes, he is crass and loud and pisses off the establishment; that’s his appeal. If he cannot win in 2024, why are they trying to take him out before the election? They’re bleeding him with frivolous charges hoping one will stick.
I’ll stick with Trump; you stick with your guy, whoever that is. Until the Democrats fully succeed in turning our great country into a full-blown banana republic, where they don’t even have to worry about free and fair elections and they can make opposition candidates disappear, we at least have a choice!
