Letter to the editor: Still waiting for ballot
It’s hard to believe Westmoreland County will probably pay Midwest Direct for ballots that never appeared in voters’ mailboxes — and may give them another chance.
They weren’t delayed — they never arrived! Either Midwest Direct said they mailed them without doing so, or they disappeared from U.S. Postal Service custody. Is there any actual proof they were mailed? If they were, it’s a federal crime.
I got a postcard reminding me to return my mail-in ballot, which had not arrived, the week before the election. I called the courthouse, both the Elections Bureau and the county commissioners’ office, and reported I’d not received it, and was assured it had been mailed on Oct. 14.
On their recommendations, I went to the courthouse that rainy Thursday for a “replacement.” There was a steady stream of people, none arriving with ballots; the five who came in after me got their ballots before I did, so I had a chance to notice. I heard the woman second after me mention the same Oct. 14 mailing date.
Why were all those people there? Why were the Elections Bureau and lobby boxes stuffed with ballots that were received and filled out in their hallway? Why were there so many provisional ballots at polling places on Election Day? Because ballots never arrived via mail.
Mine still hasn’t arrived. I would have noticed it. I was looking for it from the day I ordered it. I’m not the only one.
Fraud or federal crime? Why isn’t there an investigation?
