Letter to the editor: Stop, think and come together

I ask that you stop and think. Thinking can be hard, which is why we all judge at times.

We have been divided to the point we cannot even talk about the present state of affairs with friends and family members. We have the power and ability to speak and listen, but we have allowed certain beliefs to take hold, some of which are far from the truth, and we just cannot accept we might be wrong.

And so I ask the following questions and ask that you stop and think about your answers:

• Would you like others to treat you as you treat them?

• Are you a Christian? (Not a Christian nationalist or some other descriptor.)

• Do you still accept the Pledge of Allegiance? To the republic? For liberty and justice, for ALL?

• If one of your loved ones or a friend had a different political view, would you still love them and help them as much as you are able?

• If you were the minority or the immigrant, how would you feel about the present treatment of these people?

• Do you want to live your life the way you want? Do you believe others should have that right? What kind of life do you want for your children?

I have many other questions as I seek the best way to discuss important issues with others, but I am settled on doing it with respect and consideration of their opinions. Please stop and think about these questions, and please come together. Do not let us be divided.
