I wonder where letter-writer A.J. Abate was on Jan. 6, 2021 (“Differing views of Jan. 6,” Jan. 12, TribLIVE). He couldn’t have been sitting in front of his TV, as I was, watching with disbelief and sorrow, as there was an attempted coup by domestic terrorists.

Yes, call them what they are. They are not patriots. The Republicans know the truth of Jan. 6. They said it that next day. Kevin McCarthy, Lindsey Graham, Mitch McConnell. They all said the president was responsible for what happened. What has changed?

History will not be kind to the ex-president and his minions. It will be recorded as the first time in the history of our nation that there wasn’t a peaceful transfer of power. All this because of the lies of one person. This is a person who told lies all through his administration and is still telling them. It doesn’t matter how many audits, court cases, etc., told him he was wrong.

It was shameful that there were only two Republicans at the anniversary observance of that sad day. All it would take to get our country back on track and working together would be a strong group of good Republicans saying “enough is enough.” I know they are out there. Please step forward and act.
