Letter to the editor: Students don't need castles to succeed

Tribune-Review

After reading several letters to the editor about the extravagance of our Greater Latrobe school directors, I had to add mine. These directors don’t seem to care about schools and raising taxes. High-priced castles do not make our children any smarter. We the people should be getting smarter and watching what is going on with our tax money.

I went to Baggaley school in the 1930s and ’40s. It had four rooms, and the cost to build it was only $40. After I graduated, I was drafted and given an IQ test, which showed that my IQ was higher than average. My cousin also attended that school; he was a contractor, and when he died, he was worth millions. It goes to show you don’t need fancy castles that the contractors love to build for big money.

The teachers are important, not the buildings. If we paid less for having a castle built, there could be more money to pay for teachers.
