America is more divided than it has been since the Civil War. Throughout 2020 there were numerous battles between Americans over racial injustices, political beliefs and honestly just opinions/views on the world. It gives the illusion that our country is falling apart.

I believe this is happening because people are feeling pressure from radicals on both sides and big media outlets to choose a side. People are being told there is a right and a wrong way to think. If you turn on CNN, you’ll see headlines bashing Donald Trump and claiming he’s a terrible person for something he might have done 20 years ago. If you turn on Fox News, they’ll be praising Trump, glorifying his actions, no matter what he did. Different news channels are meant to have different views, but they should not try to falsely portray America and exaggerate situations in order to persuade others that their views are correct.

Technology is such a powerful tool now, especially social media, and people are being exposed to an incredible amount of news, both real and fake; sometimes it’s difficult to know which it is. I think it’s important to stay level-headed and try not to “pick sides,” especially if we don’t know the entire story, because that only further divides us.
