Letter to the editor: Term limits would fix broken system
Here we go again. Our dysfunctional Congress agreed on a covid relief bill for the millions of folks impacted by the pandemic. Both Democrats and Republicans loaded the omnibus spending bill with pork projects, including foreign aid, and then blame each other for wasteful spending. Meanwhile, we the people are supposed to receive a measly $600 with little for businesses that are tanking.
The deficit is $27 trillion-plus and growing each day, and all our representatives seem to care about is bringing home the pork so they get reelected to their elitist positions. When is the last time you heard anyone of them mention reducing the deficit so our kids and grandchildren can enjoy the freedom and prosperity that our forefathers gave us?
So how do we fix this broken and inept government and get rid of career politicians? Of course, you must vote, but how do you know that whoever is running will work for you or themselves? Term limits may be the answer: two terms for senators and six terms for representatives (12 years total).
U.S. Term Limits (termlimits.com) is a grassroots movement to bypass Congress and impose term limits on both the House and Senate. Also Convention of States Action (conventionofstates.com) is working to impose term limits and return power to the states. Check them out and if you believe as I do that Congress is beyond repair, please sign the petitions.
