Letter to the editor: Thankful for AVH's hospice angels

Tribune-Review

Recently my family and I experienced the death of our most cherished and loved mother and wife, Joyce, while in the care of the hospice unit at Allegheny Valley Hospital (AVH). Without exception, every doctor, nurse, aide and custodian involved in Joyce’s care manifested and demonstrated the utmost professionalism possible. They all made a most sorrowful experience bearable. They made it possible to mitigate some of the disheartening emotions of closure.

When help was needed, these work angels of AVH’s Healthcare @ Home Hospice were there comforting not only the patient, but also our family members throughout the nights and days of our escalating sorrow. They always responded quickly and efficiently, and always with a personal touch of care that put our worries at ease.

A special thanks goes to Dr. Jerry Taylor, who was present with us daily, and at the time of her passing. He was there with comfort, compassion and professional guidance when we needed it the most. Thanks also go to the most fantastic personnel in the emergency room, the nursing staff whose care extended to all our family and especially to Joyce. Thank you, Abby, Barb, Margie, Lisa and all the other nurses who supported us.

You were all angelic, and all of us were blessed to have had you there beside us, especially for her last days of life. Thank you for all of your above and beyond work ethics and specialty care.
