Letter to the editor: Thanks for nothing, PennDOT
The letter “Littering ruining our roads” (Nov. 26, TribLive) prompted me to add my two cents worth. Let’s start with: PennDOT is a joke! Hard to say it any other way. We have the second highest gas tax in the country at .576 cents/gallon. On top of that they have the cash cow called the Pennsylvania Turnpike that gives them millions more.
What do we get? Roads that become horrendous in winter and patched messes in the summer. PennDOT will explain that Pennsylvania has unique terrain that no other states have. Really?
Then, there are our great license plates. Have you ever seen even one license plate from another state with peeling paint? This contributes to millions of dollars being uncollected on turnpike tolls.
Drive the Parkway East and see the bodies of rotting animals lining the road. Why are they not picked up?
Lastly, I have also seen garbage bags and other items lining the berms of the parkway for months without being picked up. Just lazy!
You do not see these issues in other states. But a short-term solution is coming — it’s called the NFL Draft. You can bet our highways will be pristine for a week!
