Letter to the editor: Thanks to volunteers feeding hungry in Freeport

Tribune-Review

When businesses and schools started shutting down with the covid-19 pandemic, Jackie Gaughan, Heidi Powell and 14 other volunteers stepped up to the plate, serving warm lunches weekdays at Nexthome Dynamic’s drive-thru window for people living in the Freeport area.

This is not Jackie’s first rodeo. Over the past few years, Jackie and her volunteers have raised thousands of dollars for residents who have lost their homes to fires. Businesses, organizations and citizens have sponsored lunches and donated money to keep this lunch program going.

It is people like this who make me proud to say I am the mayor of Freeport and who make Freeport a better place in which to live. As I write this, they have served over 11,000 meals.

Thank you, Jackie, Heidi and all the volunteers who made this lunch program come to fruition. Keep up the good work. Anyone wishing to donate can make a check payable to Dynamic Community Foundation.
