Letter to the editor: The poorest are persecuted while the rich are indulged

Tribune-Review

According to the article “Pledge to move homeless people raises questions” (Aug. 14), there were 5,138 homeless people in Washington, D.C., at the end of January. President Trump has ordered that they leave “IMMEDIATELY.” He said, “We will give you places to stay, but FAR from the capital.”

Kevin Donahue, Washington’s city administrator, is quoted in the same article, saying that outreach workers are visiting homeless encampments and that the city has housing for as many as 200 people. That leaves 4,938 still homeless.

This cruel order follows close on the heels of the announcement of the building of a $200 million vulgar gilded ballroom at our White House, supposedly to be paid for by Trump and his “friends.”

So again, the poorest of our fellow human beings are despised and persecuted, while the enormously rich indulge their whims.
