In her op-ed “Westmoreland should be making it easier to vote, not more difficult” (March 22, TribLive), Marian Schneider claims “threats to our democracy are rife” without reasoning. One can safely infer that she means to draw a direct line between no-excuse mail-in voting and the safeguarding of democracy. This would be a reasonable conclusion, as one side of the political divide has succeeded, with the help of complicit mass media, in convincing their followers that the political opposition is itself the threat to democracy. Yet she laments the political division.

Does no one else notice the current disaster of unknown individuals flooding our country, the automatic voter registration implemented by Gov. Josh Shapiro using PennDOT and the Shapiro-endorsed attempts in our General Assembly to give illegal immigrants driver’s licenses? Now, that is a true “threat to our democracy.” What a coincidence!
