Letter to the editor: Time to downsize Pa. General Assembly

Tribune-Review

Since the 2020 election, there has been crying and whining by members of the Pennsylvania General Assembly. There are too many political wannabes in this state. If you can’t find a regular job, become a Pennsylvania legislator.

Because their “main man” lost, they want results overturned. These are the same supposed legislators who voted for political reform of mail-in ballots and absentee vote counts. Now they want the law changed since their “main man” lost.

While crying and whining, they pushed people to pass constitutional amendments limiting the governor’s power and giving it to the majority party.

Meanwhile, over the past two years, these same “politicians” neglected their main job — redistricting. Nobody seemed to care. Then the Pennsylvania Supreme Court did their job for them. Now they are crying and whining again. Is it so unfair? What a joke on us!

It seems the easiest job to get in Pennsylvania is to become an elected official: You don’t do much but moan and groan. You pass your own pay raises. You complain about the governor, so you create amendments taking away his power.

Here is the perfect redistricting map for Pennsylvania: You have 67 counties (67 separate districts). Three assemblymen from each county. Exception: The three largest counties, Allegheny, Erie and Philadelphia, get six assemblymen each. You have two state senators for each county.

This state has the biggest General Assembly of all 50 states. It’s about time we cut its size, especially expenses.

And now is the time for property tax reform, especially for senior citizen homeowners.
