Letter to the editor: Today's 'change' is not for the better

Tribune-Review

I remember when, years ago, people thought of “change” as being for the greater good, the betterment of society as a whole. Well, times have “changed” since then, and, unfortunately, not for what I perceive as the betterment of our society.

I am a retired scientist. Those of us in the scientific community have a term for this condition. It is called “entropy,” which basically means “lack of order or predictability; gradual decline into disorder.” It is basically the second law of thermodynamics, which says that “entropy always increases with time.”

Well, here we are. We have:

• Removed statues from parks, thus attempting to erase history.

• Weakened our national security through a failed energy policy, causing high inflation.

• Changed our language to accommodate those who are “woke,” whatever that means, so as to not “trigger” them by offending them with an “improper” pronoun. Your triggers are your responsibility. It is not my obligation (or anyone else’s) to tiptoe around you.

• Weakened our military by focusing on “climate change” as being the main threat to humanity.

• Have basically opened our southern border, thus taking responsibility for millions who have entered our country illegally.

I could go on, but you get the idea. How are any of the above items for the “betterment” of society?
