The brutal treatment of Attorney General William Barr by the Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee and by its chairman, Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., in particular, at a recent hearing (“Attorney General Barr defends response to protests, his role in criminal cases of Trump allies,” July 28, TribLIVE) was disgusting and disgraceful.

Although the session was characterized as a “hearing” to address “police brutality and systemic racism in law enforcement” and the Justice Department’s response to the treatment of rioters in Portland, Ore., and other cities, Barr had little opportunity to respond in a meaningful fashion to a machine gun-like blitz of comments and questions from the “frustrated” and “fuming” Democrats. The ultimate indignity at the hearing occurred when Nadler refused Barr’s request for a break to relieve himself. Nadler’s response was shameful, in my opinion.

Surely the Democrats from the respective states can find and elect representatives who have a better sense of propriety and decorum than that of the biased and undisciplined malcontents that they currently have on the House Judiciary Committee.
