Letter to the editor: Trump associates' corruption
In my letter “Crimes among Trump associates” (March 9, TribLIVE), I suggested that if Trump associates’ corruption does not amount to criminal activity, but they are lawyers, they should be disbarred. Guess what? Rudy Giuliani’s law license has been suspended in New York and Washington, D.C., and he may be disbarred. He lied repeatedly to judges, including Pennsylvania judges.
Attorney General William Barr saved his “skin” by denying the big lie at the eleventh hour during the last weeks of the Trump administration. It seems that many ex-Trump administration lawyers are having trouble finding new employment. It’s as if they have the plague. Some always can find a safe haven in right-wing think tanks, as has Mike Pence.
A federal judge in Michigan has sanctioned nine pro-Trump lawyers, including Sidney Powell and Lin Wood, who sued Michigan in a frivolous lawsuit to overturn President Biden’s victory over Trump. They should have investigated voter fraud claims more carefully, and the judge requested that their law licenses be revoked.
Mike Flynn has conducted himself unbecoming of a retired military general. Prior to the Jan. 6 insurrection he even promoted the concept that a military coup might be required. If there is a military equivalent to disbarment, it should happen.
There probably will be others implicated by the congressional committee investigating Jan. 6, including Republican members of Congress.
