Letter to the editor: Trump is disastrous

We knew it was coming, but prayed it wouldn’t happen with President Trump in office. To be caught off guard by covid-19 is disastrous, and once again showed Trump’s incompetence. First he called covid-19 a hoax, then declared the virus would be gone by April — after 15 confirmed cases he said it would be “close to zero” soon.

Now with people dying and many ill, what do we get from Trump? A daily briefing, although important, filled with Trump’s self-aggrandizing comments — proclaiming he’s done a great job, has done more than anyone ever, he’s a smart guy. His rambling briefings and word usage would be laughable if it weren’t for the seriousness of the situation.

He falsely said testing kits were widely available, and blames President Obama and others for whatever. At the briefings he still resorts to name-calling. What kind of a person acts like this? Fast forward to 4,400-plus deaths and more than 200,000 infected. When he heard Sen. Mitt Romney was in self-quarantine, he commented, with what I viewed as a clownish look, “Gee, that’s too bad.” Attendees who speak at the briefings constantly qualify their statements by invoking Trump’s name — something you would expect when speaking next to a dictator.

This is not a president. He is a disgrace. He must go in November.
